Music Theory For Adult Beginners
New Course Starting September 2025
This course is perfect for absolute beginners to build up to an internationally accredited Grade 1 Online Exam in late spring 2026. The course will cover how to read notes and rhythms, understand key signatures and scales, recognise basic musical symbols, and learn common Italian terms used in music. This foundation is the stepping stone to helping you read sheet music more confidently and generally understanding how music works.
Classes will take place in Listry Community Centre (V93 PX08) on Thursday evenings from 7:15 to 8:00pm.
The classes will be small and relaxed, with plenty of space for questions and learning at your own pace.
The course runs over two terms, each lasting 10 weeks:
• Term 1 starts this September
• Term 2 will take place in early 2026
• Each term costs €200
• A non-refundable €50 deposit secures your place for Term 1
• A Course Workbook is included
Term One Dates:
• September: 11th, 18th, 25th
• October: 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd
• November: 13th, 20th, 27th
The course will prepare you to take the Grade 1 online exam, but sitting the exam is completely optional—just there if you’d like to work towards a recognised qualification (exam fees not included).
The layout of the course—structure and pricing—is based on what my peers at the RIAM in Dublin offer, but I’m making it a little more affordable for those of us in Kerry, at almost 15% less.
